She undresses
in a rectangle
of starlight
like the unfolding
of lost papyri.

Even the willow
in the backyard
has an attack
of genuflections.

Her skin contains
certain sequences
that dissolve
at the mere suggestion
that darkness
has weight.

She likes the way
he turns a radio knob—
delicately,
like a safecracker
who has sandpapered
his fingertips.
